Matthew I. Polsky, Director of Net Worth Solutions, Inc., has 23
years of experience in commercial and investment banking, and the
retail industry. His background in leveraged finance, trade finance
and business operations as a business owner and turnaround specialist
provides him with a unique set of skills in working with mid-size
firms pursuing strategic initiatives.
Mr. Polsky received his BA from the University of Pennsylvania
and MBA from the Wharton School. He began his career with Irving
Trust, where with his fluency in Chinese, he was assigned to the
bank's Taipei Branch. After leaving the bank to form an import-export
firm, he identified a troubled leather garment lease department
retailer and, in cooperation with that company's principal supplier,
engineered a turnaround. This began a long involvement with troubled
companies.
in 1990 Mr. Polsky helped found Polsky Associates, Inc., to acquire
the assets of a bankrupt menswear retail chain which was a principal
host lessor of the leather lease department business he had previously
acquired. From there, he established several other retail ventures.
In 1994 he joined GPR Eastwood Associates, an investment banking
boutique which handled turnaround and M&A assignments for middle
market firms. He was instrumental in transactions involving companies
in a broad range of industries - security guard services, commercial
laundry services, electronic meter production, furniture accessory
manufacturing, wire manufacturing and commercial fire alarm manufacturing,
among others. He also assisted companies in successfully restructuring
troubled operations - including a furniture retailer, a textile
importer/converter, a food distributor/diverter, a sterilizer manufacturer,
and a glassware producer.
Whether involved in an acquisition or divestiture, or raising debt
or equity for a client, or assisting in turning around a troubled
business, Mr. Polsky's style has always been to work closely with
clients to develop an intimate knowledge of a company's operations
and understanding of its business model. Mr. Polsky believes this
is essential to reflect accurately a principal's own vision for
his or her company when a sale is being pursued. Yet, he is equally
willing to offer alternative, even contrary, strategies when his
analysis of a business and situation leads him to conclude that
more counter-intuitive actions are needed.
Mr. Polsky has forged strong ties with private equity groups, mezzanine
debt funds and senior lenders in the course of his career. With
an understanding of the industry appetites, investment return criteria,
and transaction size and structural preferences of such financial
investors, he is able to direct a transaction to its most appropriate
audience. Coupled with his reputation for relentless pursuit of
transactions in clients' best interests, Mr. Polsky acts with sophistication
and drive to get the "deal" done.
